Cognosante is recruiting three (3) Human Factors Engineers – Senior to support upcoming work with the Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) electronic health record modernization (EHRM) initiative, which includes sustainment of the legacy VistA system and implementation of Oracle Cerner. Under this role, candidates will lead studies approximately 15 weeks in length to improve EHR technology, clinical and administrative workflows, and training practices that enable EHR adoption and effective usage by healthcare and administrative staff across a wide range of roles within the VHA. Competitive candidates must have a deep understanding of research and industry trends and apply this state-of-the-art knowledge in findings and methods to devise strategies, evaluations, and designs to assess products and processes. Positions are contingent upon contract award and can be part-time (minimum 60%) to full-time.

What is the position?

  • Develop study proposals, methods, and project plans.

  • Lead study planning and execution for 4-6 studies per year

  • Develop reports and briefings for VHA leaders summarizing results and recommendations

  • Interface with product and process owners to develop action plans for improvements

  • Apply SAFe/Agile/Lean methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of products and processes

  • Travel up to 25% to support on-site observations related to EHRM go-live events

  • Coordinate site visits to VHA medical facilities to conduct evaluations

  • Meet regularly with EHRM governance bodies to identify priorities and challenges

  • Design business processes and workflows to maximize efficiency and effectiveness

What qualifications do I need?

  • Master’s degree in a healthcare, IT, or engineering field

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience supporting healthcare-related projects

  • Minimum 5 years experience working with health IT applications (e.g., EHR, telehealth, healthcare business systems)

  • Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of human factors engineering study methods

  • Previous experience in guiding redesigns to minimize negative impacts of technology implementation

  • Previous experience applying SAFe, Agile, and/or Lean methodologies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations for handling of PHI, PII, and CUI

  • Excellent communications skills and experience briefing healthcare leaders

What additional characteristics will help me thrive?

  • Current or recent VHA work experience and active PIV card

  • Previous experience with Oracle Cerner products preferred

  • SAFe, Agile, and/or Lean certification desired

  • CPHIMS certification

  • Experience with business process modeling frameworks (e.g., BPMN+)

Compensation

$133,913.69 - $214,261.91

The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration - contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosante’s total compensation package for employees. It is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee.
